The fishes and sharks need to be fed daily with proper food and filter(I agree he should have been eaten or bitten by sharks), they all would have died of starvation when Conan found them. And since he hate his workplace, why built at it, when he should have build where nobody knows.

without food for up to a week. Sharks especially are able to last up to a
year without a meal. It's hardly a plot hole.
